Field Day 2010 – June 25 – 27

Friday June 25th we all make the trek up the treturous face of Mt Stratham Hill, it takes many a man and woman to accomplish this annual feat and hours of preparation.  But it’s all worth it when we finish the trek up the hundreds of feet that makes up this incredible obsticle.  We strive again to stay first in our class with the hopes that one year, maybe this one, we’ll make number one in the nation!

For those people who have not yet made the trek up this monster, here are some directions from 95 and Rte 33:

This will show how to get to the road up the hill, if you wish to walk up the hill and see the sights you can park at the Stratham Hill Park parking lot and follow the signs to club up the hill.  (I was only kidding about Stratham hill, it’s not very big or scary)

We hope you can come up and join us, anyone is welcome to operate even if you have never operated a radio before, no license required!

N1MM Logger Training Class – June 24

On June 24th (Wednesday) at 6:30 PM, the Port City Amateur Radio Club will be conducting a training class, for those participating in Field Day, to learn N1MM Logger. N1MM is being used at Field Day this year in place of CT.

The club has approximately 7 to 9 laptops loaded with N1MM for class use and we encourage participants to bring their own laptop. We will have several CDs available with all the necessary files for people to load N1MM on their laptops. Please visit the N1MM PC requirements section to see if your PC is compatible.

FD 2007 Declared a Success!

Wow, what a great weekend – thanks to each and everyone of you that did such a fabulous job over the weekend. I seriously did not think we could top the 2006 success but you know what, WE DID! We had fun, introduced the public to our incredible hobby, I may have found at least two new contesters for my contest station, we ate very well. No injuries that I am aware, and it all came down faster than last year – off the site by 4:15 PM.

Is it true we had 150 people sign in over the weekend??? We were the Stratham Hill Park attraction for the weekend! I did not get interviewed by any press so would like to know who did and who did you talk to? Did we get any TV coverage? I got a voice mail message from Gov. Lynch’s office which I will convert to a wav file saying sorry he could not make it but wanted to thank the PCARC for all of its efforts and wished us good luck for the weekend!

Nearly 5500 QSO’s all in the name of fun down from last year but we did not have the spectacular conditions we had last year (Sporatic E skip on 6, 10, 15 M). But we made up for it with some huge efforts on 40 M (both CW and SSB)! Of course 20 M was its usual tremendously fun band too!

We compared the Maxcom all band automatic tuning system to a conventional 80 M dipole – it lost and was confirmed to be a fraud. FD is all about trying things – antennas, rigs, new gadgets, and of course the socializing and the public exposure – the PCARC is the gold standard here!

Regards,

Mark, K1RX

PS. Rick N1ZXZ has posted some of your FD 2007 photos here
